Well, at least it's not the flu ...

For the first time in memory — and maybe EVER — I got a flu shot back in the fall. They were paid for by my company and provided at my job site, so why not, I thought. They're not live viruses anymore, as they were in my grandma's day, and I'm not being treated for anything remotely close to cancer, as my grandma was when her idiot doctor gave her a live virus flu shot, which induced pneumonia, which killed her three days later.

My fears, I told myself, are unfounded.

And you know what? I haven't had the flu this year.

I feel like I've had everything else, but confound it all, I haven't had the flu. I guess I can say that for the damned little shot.

I've had the worst chest cold I can remember having in a long time. I've had a sinus infection. I've had pink eye. I've had food poisoning and almost fainted in a Safeway as a result of the dehydration.

I haven't had strep, but I fear that having confessed that lack in my life here, it'll show up. Can't be left out.

But darn it all ... I haven't had the flu. I'm not sure that I was the winner in this scenario.
