Burying 2012

It snows here a few times a year - wet, clumpy stuff that often melts as soon as it hits asphalt.

So the fact that it snowed - real, sticking, winter-wonderland snow - while I was house-sitting at the Palace in the Woods and dog-sitting two of the sweetest & cuddliest dogs in the PNW was a treat. I even went outside and played tag with the dogs in it. Roxie loved slip-sliding across the yard.

It was a day for coffee, for naps, for soggy-doggy snuggles. And then a night for work and for bidding farewell to a year that has broken my heart and shattered the hearts of the people I love.

I stood on the sidewalk tonight after work, champagne in hand & watching fireworks in my neighborhood while Mom & I had our traditional "Happy New Year" phone call. We happily placed 2012 in a box behind us, burying it in the icy remains of the day's snow.

May 2013 be kinder to our hearts. They've been through a lot.
